The Extincts was an enjoyable read but after laughing genuinely in the first chapter, I wasn't really struck by the humour of the book. The plot was a bit too much with all the legendary/magical creatures and though the story was fast-paced, the repetitive scheme made it drag on most times/5.

The quirky language and British-style vocabulary match the tone of the book yet disrupt fluency and may be challenging for some students. VERDICT With an appealing subject matter, The Extincts is a weird, highly imaginative adventure that will entice readers with its theme of animal conservation, which rings loudly in today's society/5(17).

“The Extincts is perfect for year-olds who love reading about weird, wild and wonderful creatures, have a taste for exhilarating escapades and rescue missions. The quirky illustrations by the brilliant Steve Wells amusingly bring the story to life.
